Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
