The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together exists a deep contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot starts when the couple move from the urban environment to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, blending elements of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie grapple with the sort of issues that arise in most partnerships over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
